THE ADIVASI KAPPI SOCIETY
Coffee is one of the many crops grown by the adivasis of the Gudalur valley in the  Nilgiri Hills of Tamilnadu. As small and marginal farmers, they are often short changed both in weight and price. Worse, many are induced into taking cash advances in the lean season and parting with their coffee at throwaway prices.

The Adivasi Kappi Society – a collective effort under the umbrella of the Adivasi Munnetra Sangam  to tackle this head on by linking you, as a consumer, directly with the adivasi villages where coffee is grown. Coffee has now entered the list of products available from THE FIRST PEOPLE range.

This coffee is grown and gathered through more gentle and natural processes in keeping with the adivasi ethos of taking from nature only what nature is willing to give. Adivasis refuse to poison the earth with chemicals just for a few dollars more.

A sip of this coffee is a sip for social change – bringing power to the coffee gatherers.

The adivasis in their quest for economic self reliance started THE FIRST PEOPLE project through which they reach a range of their products – handmade soap, wild honey, pepper etc –  direct to the consumer. Naturally grown Coffee has now been added to this basket.

Enjoy your coffee! It’s a pretty good cuppa. In more ways than one.
